The Orchestra

This section of the website is devoted to the Orchestra of The Sixteen. Formed in 1986 to perform with The Sixteen at its first ever performance of Handel's Messiah, the orchestra were initially known as The Symphony of Harmony and Invention.
The size and format of the orchestra is entirely dependent on the repertoire for each concert - some concerts will only require the 'continuo' section of the orchestra (usually organ, dulcian, theorbo and harp), whereas other concerts require a larger group comprising full strings and large woodwind, brass and percussion sections!
On this section of the website, you can find out more about the players in the Orchestra of The Sixteen as well as information for players interested in joining the group. Details of concerts and recordings involving the orchestra can also be found on this section of the website.
